E Pulvere Lux Et Vis

10 December 2013

The Circus Space building used to be an old power station, the Shoreditch Electric Light Station, which burned domestic rubbish to generate electricity in the 1890s. The Latin inscription which still remains over the door to the building is ‘E Pulvere Lux Et Vis’ which translates to ‘Out of the dust comes power and light’.

This beautiful phrase so well encapsulates how I feel right now. Its nearly the end of my first term and I am finally beginning to see some progress in my flexibility, my overall movement quality and abilities. Its been such an hard few months both physically and emotionally, adjusting to new and higher expectations, trying to compare myself not to others, but rather against my own starting point, and doing my best to overcome the fears I have that I’m just not good enough. In the last week I have done two physical things which utterly terrified me. Many times during these task I doubted myself and wanted to say ‘stop’, but I carried on, accomplished the task and felt better about myself and my abilities afterwards.

If only emotional fears were as easy to break through for me. That is going to be my goal moving forward. It’s not going to be easy, but I’m going to be better for it.
