Specalisation in Tightwire

07 February 2014

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been having specialisation assessments in tightwire. I initially tried it out at Circus Warehouse in New York with Sonja Harpstead and was surprised to discover how utterly exhausting it is! When you start learning wire you begin with walking and you fall off a lot, so not only do you do a lot of walking, you do a lot of climbing back up onto the wire again, I swear its akin to two thirds of a step aerobics class!

Wire requires a great deal of postural control, timing, and an understanding of weight distribution - It takes a long time to master, but I did make progress over the weeks, eventually managing to walk, sit down, get back up and walk off again without falling off.

I really enjoy wire, even though it makes me feel a bit like a frightened cat trying to traverse a washing line, rather than the embodiment of elegant circus elegance! If I could have a second discipline this would definitely be it, and who knows what the future may hold, but for now I think I belong in the air.
